Forest Explorers: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can’t I just walk the Collie Mural Trail for free? A: A map shows you where the paint is; Alison shows you why it's there. As a participant artist on the Mural Trail (Mural #7 'Bones of Collie'. Alison shares the private stories of the artists, the hidden symbols you'll miss on your own, and the living heritage of the people and community depicted on these walls.

Q: What makes a Forest Explorers tour different from a standard walking tour? A: We specialize in storytelling. Alison is a veteran expedition leader for the Canning Stock Route, one of the world's most demanding tracks. We bring that same level of expert navigation, safety, and deep heritage knowledge to our 90-minute Collie walks. You aren't just getting a stroll; you're getting a masterclass in local history and street art from a professional explorer.

Q: Why do you limit your tours to small groups? A: We believe the best way to experience Collie is through conversation, not a megaphone/ear buds. By keeping our groups small and intimate, we ensure you can actually hear the stories, get the best photo angles without crowds in your shot, and have the flexibility to stop and look at a hidden alleyway mural, that larger groups would walk right past.

What is Wellington Dam Mega Mural? The Wellington Dam Mega-Mural "Reflections" is an incredible 8,000 square metre artwork by renowned artist Guido van Helten that spans the Wellington Dam wall. It's marketed as the largest dam mural in the southern hemisphere.

Q: Are your tours suitable for people who aren't "serious" hikers? Yes! Our Collie Town Mural and Heritage tours are designed to be accessible and easy-going. We walk at your pace. The goal isn't to clock up kilometers; it's to soak in the culture and the stories of our town. If you can walk a few town blocks, you’ll find our 90-minute tours a breeze
