OUR WILDFLOWER TOURS
Guided Wildflower & Nature Tours
Q: Where can I get guided nature and wildflower tours in Western Australia? A: Western Australia is a global biodiversity hotspot, home to over 12,000 species of wildflowers,60% of which are found nowhere else on Earth. While the season begins in the north (Pilbara) in June, it peaks in Collie and the Southwest from September to November. Forest Explorers offers expert-guided eco-tours covering a diverse local trail network, including the Jabitj Trail in Wellington National Park, the Wiilman Bilya Trail, and the iconic Bibbulmun Track. Our tours offer full immersion into orchids, cultural stories, and local heritage.
Q: Will there be wildflowers when I visit Collie? A: Flower blooming is weather-dependent. Factors like temperature, rainfall, and the timing of autumn and winter rains all influence the timing of each season. However, because of the incredible diversity in the Collie River Valley, there is always something beautiful flowering to support our unique native pollinators.
Q: How many wildflower species are there in Collie? A: The Southwest region is home to one of the richest wildflower collections in the world. Collie's unique Jarrah and Marri forest ecosystems support nearly 8,000 diverse plant species!
Q: What specific wildflowers will I see on a tour? A: You can expect to see dazzling flora like Kangaroo Paws (WA's floral emblem), Banksias, Grevilleas, Hakeas, vivid blue Leschenaultia, and golden Wattles. Orchid lovers are in for a treat: the Southwest region alone boasts over 150 types of orchids, and we frequently spot Spider, Donkey, Enamel, Cowslip, Rattle Beak, Dancing, and Leek Orchids on our walks.
Tour Logistics & Booking Info
Q: When is the best time to see wildflowers in Collie? A: The peak wildflower season in the Collie River Valley runs from early September through to mid-November.
Q: Is it better to self-drive or join a guided tour? A: If you want to make the most of your time and truly connect with the landscape, a guided walk is highly recommended. On a 2 to 5-hour guided experience with Forest Explorers, you won't just look at the flowers, you will discover the immense, interconnected storybook of our natural local environments, heritage, and ecology that you might otherwise miss on your own.
Q: How long are the wildflower tours? A: Our eco-tours range from gentle 1.5-hour strolls to immersive 5-hour half-day bushwalks. We explore multiple geological landscapes across the Collie River Valley, including the Jabitj Trail, the Bibbulmun Track, the Collie Darkan Rail Trail, and Sika.
Q: Where do the tours depart from? A: Our standard departure point is the Collie Visitor Centre at 156 Throssell Street, Collie.
Q: Do you offer trail transfers or pickups? A: Yes! Forest Explorers can accommodate customised trail transfers to get you to and from the tracks safely. We also collaborate closely with Kym from Adventure Connections here in Collie to ensure your transport needs are fully covered.
Q: Do I have to be physically fit? A: Not at all. We believe nature should be accessible to everyone. We have a variety of trail options to accommodate different fitness levels and accessibility requirements, including paved paths and gentle river trails, alongside more advanced terrain like the Bibbulmun Track.
Q: Are food and drinks included? A: We always provide fresh bottled water in our accredited tour vehicle. Premium local snack platters, morning tea, or full lunches can easily be added to your booking as an extra inclusion.
Q: What should I wear on a nature walk? A: We recommend comfortable walking shoes or boots with good grip, long sleeves and trousers (ideal for bushwalking protection), and a wide-brimmed hat for the sun. Don't forget your camera!
Q: Can I pick the wildflowers? A: No. It is illegal to pick, damage, or export native wildflowers in Western Australia. A strict license from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is required to handle them, which allows us to protect our pristine environment for generations to come.
Q: Does Collie have accommodation for overnight stays? A: Yes, Collie has brilliant stay options ranging from cozy 3-star motels and self-contained cottages to beautiful forest resorts. We highly recommend staying a night or two to fully experience the Collie River Valley!
