Beyond the Wells: Why Community Makes the Canning Stock Route
There is something undeniably magic about navigating Western Australia's remote outback. Crossing four deserts over 22 days on the Canning Stock Route brings unforgettable landscapes, red earth and boundless horizon. But ask anyone who has completed an expedition with us, and they’ll tell you the same thing: it’s the people and the shared moments that truly make the journey.
Reconnecting on the Track & In Town
Guiding in the outback comes with many highlights, but catching up with fellow 4WD tour operators and guides is near the top. After concluding our latest expedition, our journey homeward kicked off with a stop in Broome.
There, we sat down for a BBQ and a catch-up with Toby Richardson and his dad, Andy, from Rough as Guts Tours. Swapping stories from the WA tracks, maps, reflecting on how the season unfolded, discussing mechanical trends, and sharing hands-on experiences with operators who share the same passion for remote WA.
A Canning Stock Route adventure isn't just about pushing through to the next well on the map. It's about collaboration, learning from one another, embracing the unexpected, and celebrating every milestone together.
The tracks test our vehicles, the evenings around the campfire build lifelong connections. Throughout our 22-day crossing, our group shared far more than just desert miles:

Desert Quiz Nights & Laughter: Friendly rivalries and storytelling late into the night.
These shared campfire traditions turn a group of solo travelers and vehicle crews into a team, creating friendships that last well beyond the final stretch of track.
